Historic town a short drive away, a good contrast to the wetland’s nature and birdlife.
Parc Natural de s’Albufera shows a flatter and more understated side of Mallorca. Behind Alcúdia Bay lies a water-rich landscape with canals, marshland, reed beds, lagoons, salt-influenced zones and dune nature. Here, the pace is set by the water level, the birds and the wind in the reeds.
The trails can be used on foot or by bicycle, and the park has both observation points and bird hides. It is a place where binoculars make sense, but where you can also get something out of simply following the canals and watching for movement in the reed beds, even without species lists.
s’Albufera feels peaceful today, but the landscape is also shaped by people’s attempts to control the water. Dikes, bridges and canals are not just practical access routes; they are traces of drainage, agriculture and later nature management. That is why the trip in some places feels like a nature walk on old engineering tracks.
Access is via Pont dels Anglesos, and visitors must collect a permit at the reception centre. The park’s rules emphasize quiet, marked trails and respect for wildlife. Food does not belong in the bird hides, and dogs and other pets are not allowed.
Pont dels Anglesos, “the English bridge”, is the main landmark for access to Parc Natural de s’Albufera by the Ma-12 in Playa de Muro. From here, you continue on foot or by bicycle; private cars are not allowed into the park.
You can park at the entrance or on the roads by the nearby urbanisations. Inside the park, the free visitor permit must be collected at reception, which has shorter opening hours than the wetland itself.
The bird hides in s’Albufera are made for the quiet side of the nature experience: binoculars, a camera, and a low voice. Here you can sit sheltered and look out over the wetland without disturbing the birds.
The park has marked routes with colors and numbers, and inside the observatories there are illustrations of common birds. Food does not belong in the hides; they work best as small resting places for patience.
