Sand, dunes and the North Sea

Børsmose Beach is the kind of beach where the horizon matters more than the facilities. The sand is wide and fine, and the dune terrain behind the beach offers shelter when the westerly wind makes its presence felt. In summer it can be busy here, but the width means that beach life still has room to spread out.

A beach with engine noise and quiet corners

What makes Børsmose special is that you can take your car down onto the northern part of the beach. That makes access easy for families, older people and those with walking difficulties, but it also means that the beach experience here can include tyre tracks in the sand. If you would rather have a car-free beach day, the southern part is the place to go.

Swimming, fishing and a plantation behind the dunes

The beach is used for swimming and sunbathing, but the North Sea is not a swimming pool: there can be wild waves, strong surf and rip currents. You can also fish for flatfish from the beach, and behind the coast lies Kærgård Plantation with forest, dune heath, lakes and meadows. To the north there is also a marked naturist beach, where driving is not allowed.

Horseback Riding on Børsmose Beach

Børsmose Beach is a wide North Sea beach where cars can drive all the way onto the sand, and where riders especially benefit from the space outside the busiest summer days.

From 1 September to 31 May, horseback riding is permitted on the unvegetated beach and directly down to it, if there is legal access. Protected dune areas and vegetated beach areas are generally not riding areas, so the open beach is the safe route.
