Deià is tucked between the Serra de Tramuntana and the Mediterranean, and that is reflected in the town’s small shifts: cobbled streets, ochre-coloured stone houses, green gardens and sudden views out over the water. It is not a town with one major attraction, but a village where the views, the houses and the mountain slopes together do the work.
Deià has long had a bohemian feel, and the official tourism portal highlights that many artists settled here in the 1960s. The best-known connection is Robert Graves, who built Ca n’Alluny near the village and later lived here again until his death. The church and cemetery on the hilltop are also mentioned among the town’s sights, not least because of the panoramic views.
From the village, there is an obvious detour down to Cala Deià, a small coastal cove with stones, coarse sand, clear water and traditional boathouses where fishermen store boats and gear. The cove is close enough to be part of the picture of Deià, but it is not an ordinary sandy beach with many facilities. From the cove, you can continue along the coast towards the watchtower by Sa Pedrissa; behind it, Es Teix rises like a dry, massive backdrop.
