At Dovns Klint, the Exmoor ponies live in a fenced nature area between the cliff and Søgård. The landscape is open and hilly, with hills, small lakes and a smaller wooded section, so the horses can both stand visibly in the terrain and disappear behind a ridge.

They live outdoors all year round and with as little direct human contact as possible. That is part of the point here: you do not see tame animals by a fence, but a herd with its own rhythm, hierarchy and good distance to people.

Cliff, binoculars and lunch

Dovns Klint lies right at the southern tip of Langeland, where Langelandsbæltet and the Baltic Sea meet. That makes the place more than a horse experience. From the open heights there is a view over the coast, and the area is known as a good place to stand with binoculars when the birds migrate.

Bringing your own food can be eaten in the barn with tables, and there are wooden horses for children by the barn. If the ponies happen to come close enough in the landscape, lunch quickly becomes more interesting than the table setting.

Keep your distance

The horses help manage the nature: their grazing and browsing on bushes and trees help keep the landscape open. Keep at least 50 meters away, leave foals in peace, and do not pet or feed them. The experience is best when the herd is allowed to remain a herd.
