Ganer Å Aquarium

An aquarium with a current

At Ganer Å stands a viewing box that turns the idea of a bird hide on its head. Here you do not look up into the sky, but through thick glass panes into the stream right outside. When visibility and luck are on your side, you may spot freshwater fish and other stream life in the dark, moving water.

Good for curious children

The place is especially strong because the experience is simple: you go in, stand by the window and wait for the stream to reveal something. That makes the aquarium well suited for children who want to see nature up close without long explanations. At the same time, it is a reminder that a West Jutland watercourse holds more than what you see from the bank.

On the edge of Skjern

The aquarium is located on the outskirts of Skjern by Ganer Å, with access via Klostermarken. The stream is part of a larger green stretch between Skjern Enge and the nature by Dejbjerg Plantage, so the place can be combined with a short trip in the area. After heavy rain and high water levels, however, some trails in Skjern Ådal can be difficult or impossible to use, and right here you notice that the stream still gets to decide some things itself.
