The Royal Kitchen Garden in Gråsten

Neat rows by the castle

The Royal Kitchen Garden is located right next to Gråsten Castle and the castle garden, but the atmosphere is more one of working calm than a castle backdrop. Here you walk among straight paths, herb beds, espaliered trees and rows of fruit trees, where the kitchen garden is still part of everyday life around the summer castle.

Flowers, berries and royal kitchen

The beds may include vegetables, herbs, flowers, berry bushes and fruit trees in espalier. What makes it special is not only that the garden is pleasant to look at, but also that the crops are delivered to the royal family at Gråsten Castle. Sometimes it is the small things that say the most: a straight row of lettuce, espaliered branches or the scent of the herbs.

Café, shop and a quiet break

Adjacent to the kitchen garden are a shop and café, where food, drinks and products from the garden can be purchased. The place also functions as a working community, where gardeners, volunteers and employees from the employment initiative Væksthuset help keep the garden running. There are toilets and seating, and the paths are said to be suitable for wheelchairs, walkers and prams. It is a royal garden, but with soil under the fingernails.
