190 mThis is not a place with a grand facade or a clearly visible monument. It is a local historical story about school outings from Skovlund to Bornholm, where the journey itself was part of the experience.
For the pupils, Bornholm was not just an island far to the east. Along the way, there was time to see a little of Copenhagen before the ferry sailed late in the evening. That detail says a lot about school trips of the time: waiting, city air, anticipation and a whole group of pupils on their way far from everyday life.
The story fits into Bornholm’s older travel history, where the island for many years was closely connected with Zealand and Copenhagen through ferry routes to Rønne. Seen from Skovlund, the distance almost becomes the point: a West Jutland school town, the capital as an intermediate stop, and then a night ferry ride toward the rocky island.
