Hattebjerget is a viewpoint in Nyminde Plantage, where the walk ends with a breath of fresh air and a wide view. From the platform at the top, the landscape opens over Nymindestrømmen, Gammelgab and the southwestern part of Ringkøbing Fjord. It is a place where the plantation’s darker pine trees meet the flatter, brighter coastal landscape to the west.
The viewpoint is located by Søren Hats Vej and along the yellow hiking route in Nyminde. The route passes through forest, dune heath and forest bogs, and around Hattebjerget the western part is marked by mountain pine scrub, while the forest further in is more sheltered from the wind. This gives the walk clear shifts in light, terrain and views.
Nymindestrømmen used to be the outlet of Ringkøbing Fjord, and the watercourse has moved along the coast over centuries. In the southernmost part, the stream has become a series of fresh lakes, while the area around Gammel Gab consists of dunes, dune heath and dune hollows. From Hattebjerget, you therefore see not just water and forest, but traces of a coastal landscape that has never really stood still.
